This program provides workshops for mothers of African-American
boys aged 10 through 18. Women who are trying to raise boys alone
need help understanding the dynamics of being male and being Black.
The workshops take place in Five Points and in Montbello and will
be held six times during 2004. Recreational workshops for African-American
sons of single mothers, facilitated by successful Black men who
have been raised by single mothers, will take place in Five Points
and Montbello later this year.
In 2004, a component of this program will include STD prevention
education for the mothers and their sons. Activities will focus
on helping single mothers evaluate their STD risks and understand
how to help their sons learn to reduce their risks.
